TRANSIENT the ever-changing characteristics and dualities of nature and encourages the viewer to explore the significance of these concepts within ones own internal landscape...
Our state of human being is such a mirror to natures elements and it's ebb and flow-
When we allow the natural cycle of coming and going, to embrace the duplicity of decay and rebirth, we can truly flourish.
The artistic journey began with classical training in representational painting and was much needed before I could interpret the natural world, the concepts and characteristics of the elements down to a minimal abstracted form.
Process: Half additive, half subtractive...
in approaching the canvas I consider the application, placement and choice of transparent and opacified pigments; manipulating the paint to dissolve or comes forth by layering and wiping away.
Each subtraction is haphazard and sometimes I remove parts of the composition I’ve come to appreciate; I must learn to fully embrace the absence of the former and allow the new gesture to guide the next mark…
